Privacy Policy

When you create an account we collect your name (or display name), email address, and authentication identifiers from your sign-in provider, such as Apple Sign In or Google Sign-In. We also store the learning preferences you enter during onboarding — your level, native language, tutor language, learning reason, daily goal, selected situations, custom scene prompts, interests, and goals — so we can generate practice that fits you.

As you read, we store your learning data including chapters completed, conversation progress, recognized speech transcripts, words saved, selected text, annotations, review state, and speaking feedback. When the on-device speech recognizer cannot create a transcript, BaiBan may send a short audio recording to recover the transcript or evaluate pronunciation. We do not store raw microphone recordings as part of your account history.

We also log product telemetry such as feature usage, device type, app version, entitlement status, and crash diagnostics to keep the service reliable.

We collect information directly from you when you choose onboarding options, speak or type during a lesson, save vocabulary, contact support, or manage your account. We collect some information automatically when you use the app, such as app version, feature usage, device type, and error diagnostics. We also receive limited account, sign-in, subscription, and entitlement information from service providers that help us operate BaiBan.

Your data is used to provide and improve BaiBan, including to:

• Generate personalized lessons, stories, and explanations.
• Run AI-powered conversation, speaking, transcription, and voice features.
• Synchronize your progress and saved content across devices.
• Deliver spaced-repetition review reminders and learning insights.
• Protect accounts, detect abuse, and troubleshoot app errors.
• Measure product performance and prioritize feature improvements.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your saved words, chapter history, or private notes to train public machine learning models.

Depending on where you live, we process data under one or more legal bases: to perform our contract with you (providing the app), for legitimate interests (security, reliability, analytics), to comply with legal obligations, and with consent where required.

BaiBan uses third-party providers to operate the service. These include Supabase for authentication and database services, Apple and Google for sign-in, Apple and RevenueCat for subscriptions and entitlement management, PostHog for product analytics, and Render for hosting.

BaiBan also uses AI service providers. OpenAI may process learning preferences, lesson context, selected words, conversation text, recognized speech transcripts, fallback audio for transcription, and tutor text for voice generation. Cerebras may process lesson context, prompts, transcripts, and scoring requests. ElevenLabs may process tutor text when configured to generate tutor voice audio.

We send AI providers only the content needed to provide the feature you are using, such as generating a scene, explaining selected text, transcribing fallback audio, scoring a spoken response, or generating tutor audio. BaiBan does not sell your personal data, and BaiBan does not use your saved words, chapter history, private notes, transcripts, or recordings to train public machine learning models.

We require service providers to safeguard your data, process it only for approved purposes, and provide the same or equal protection required by this policy.

We share personal data only when needed to run BaiBan, to comply with law, or to protect rights and safety. We may disclose information in response to lawful requests from public authorities.

Your account and learning history remain on our servers as long as your account exists. We retain certain operational logs for limited periods to secure and maintain the service.

Speech transcripts and speaking results may be stored with your lesson history so BaiBan can show progress and help you review. Short fallback audio recordings are processed to provide transcription or pronunciation support and are not stored as account history by BaiBan.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings — this removes your profile, progress, and saved words from active systems, subject to brief backup retention and legal obligations.

BaiBan and its providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border data transfers.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

BaiBan asks for your permission in-app before sending personal data to AI service providers for AI-powered lessons, conversations, speaking feedback, transcription, explanations, or tutor voice. If you do not agree, you should not use those AI-powered features.

You can view, edit, or delete profile data from Settings. You may also request access, correction, deletion, portability, or object to certain processing where applicable law provides those rights.

For requests we can't handle in-app — including data export — email us at privacy@baiban.app.

BaiBan is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us and we will investigate and delete it where appropriate.

We may update this policy as BaiBan evolves. When we do, we'll update the date above and, for material changes, notify you in-app or by other appropriate means.
